First off, thanks to all the people that voted for the Nytenare.
Back before I got right into this hobby I had friends with some crazy 1:1 rigs. Full exocages were kin da the new thing back then and getting to go for a ride in one was very cool.
So when I realized I could build a scale rc with an exo it was on.
I built this truck with 1/4 inch brake silver solder and a propane torch. If I can do so can you.
I started with no real plan and a front half of a C-10 truck. Fabbing on the fly makes for fun, plus the best laid plans always get changed anyway.
The tube bed was made to fit a full size spare laying down or two standing.
It's made so the body slides in and out from the front and there are no body pins to hold it in place, just a snug fit.
My first idea was to make a 3/4 leaf setup in the rear and 4 link in the front with a set of stock MGT shocks (minus the fake res) on all four corners. I chopped up my good rule to make the leafs.
Sure looked cool but after 3 feet on the trail and no anti roll bar it tossed the drive shaft out.
Back at the shop I slammed in a 4 link in the back. After that this truck had some serious twist to it, could put the rear axle strait up and down. Very cool in the day.
Tore apart a good servo and make my first winch with 4 feet of line on it. Then came a bumper with a working fairlead. Got to say I was surprised that the winch could pull this truck strait up off the ground.
Tire wise this Nytemare has seen it all. Cut Jhawg/Swamper/Moabs/allT's/Cut Red Rocks/Clawz and lastest Hammers.
The Nytemare now has a set of TLT shocks setup in my classic droop with internal springs (pen springs) and gets enough twist without getting carried away.
After winning the ROTM it's time to get the Nytemare back on the trail. It's getting a 3 cell lipo/ and a 2 cell lipo receiver pack.
Next time you see Nytemare it may be pulling someone's Toyota out of a ditch! |
